• Education Visa Samui - The process and regulations


    In order to obtain an Education Visa (ED Visa) and be eligible for an extension to stay; you need to study at a school registered with the Ministry of Education (MOE) for a minimum of 100 hours and / or a minimum of 200 hours within one year.

    The process to obtain an ED visa


    Step 1 The applicants fill in the ED visa application forms and submit together with the following:
    a. 1 photo size 4cm x 6cm ( Nathon Immigration)
    b. Bank Account statement 25,000-30,000THB.
    c. 6 photos size 3cm x 4cm
    d. photocopy of your passport e. payment receipt from school
    Note: According to the regulation of the Ministry of Education, all photos must be taken in business attire e.g. collared shirt and / or a suit.


    Step 2 The school will submit the applicants' documents to the Ministry of Education for approval. This process will take 4-5 weeks.

    Step 3 After the applicants' documents are approved by Ministry of Education, the school will contact the applicant to pick up the approved document from the school.
    In case of applicant who apply an ED visa from outside Thailand, the school will send the approved
    document by Express Thai post or DHL to the applicant's address in their countries.
    ( The sending cost will be paid by the applicant )

    Step 4 The applicant will take the approved documents to apply for an ED visa with a Thai Consulate or Embassy located outside of Thailand. Please note the following;
    A: The people of the following countries: Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Sri-Lanka, Middle Eastern countries and Countries in South Africa, have to apply for an ED visa in their own country.
    B: If the applicant knows or thinks they may need to leave Thailand during the ED visa period, please apply for a multi-entry visa. The normal ED visa is single entry only.
    C: A student with a single entry visa may convert that visa to a multi-entry visa within Thailand at immigration during the effective period of the visa.

    Step 5 The applicant must bring their passport to the school within one week of re-entering Thailand or send photocopies or scans of each page of the passport by post or email. The applicant may then choose from the available schedules for Thai class.

    Step 6 The school issues the documents for the applicant to extend their visa at Immigration every three months.


    Regulations


    1. The tuition fee for the course must be paid in full in advance (if you are outside of Thailand).
    2. Once the application has been submitted to the MOE, the tuition fee is non refundable. If the application is rejected by the MOE, then the fees will be refunded in full.
    3. If the applicant leaves Thailand after the application has been submitted, then they must inform the school within 5 days of leaving Thailand.
    4. If the applicant does not pick up the approval letter from the MOE within one month of issue and the school is unable to contact the applicant; then the approved letter will be cancelled. The school will take no responsibility for this.
    5. If the applicant requires an official document of registration or attendance by the school e.g. for the purpose of obtaining a Thai driving license, the fee is 500 baht per reference letter.


    Class Attendance or Schedule Changes


    1. Each course consists of 50 hours over a 3-month period.

    a. For group classes, if the applicant wishes to change their schedule,
    Please inform the school within the first three lessons. The applicant may then select from available schedules and the applicant may be required to repeat a lesson (s).
    b. In case the applicant misses a class(es), the school will provide a review lesson (s)for up to two hours per 50-hour period.
    c. Any classes missed thereafter can be reviewed as per the fee schedule for private individual lessons.
    d. If the applicant misses more than ten classes then the applicant may have to start again from the beginning with a new schedule.
    e. In case the applicant converts group lessons to be private lessons, the fee for private lessons is 500 baht/hour.


    2. If the applicant wants to obtain a new visa for an additional course(s) or subsequent years of study in Thailand, please inform the school at least two months in advance before the completion of their current course. The applicant may be required to take an exam set by the school, the results of test which will be submitted to the MOE together with the application for the new course.

    3. If the applicant does not pass the exam, then the school will provide extra tutorial lessons and will repeat the exam. The cost of these tutorials will be as per the fee schedule for private individual lessons.
