My experience applying for the DTV visa from Hanoi was actually much easier than I expected. One important thing to know is that you do not need to visit immigration in person. The application is completed online through the Thai Embassy website in Hanoi.<\/p>

The main requirement is proving that you are physically in Hanoi at the time of the application. For example, you can use your hotel booking\/address and your Vietnam entry stamp as proof of location.<\/p>

Once you have those documents, you can go to the Thai Embassy website for Hanoi and complete the application online. You will need to upload all the required documents, including:

\u2022 Passport information
\u2022 Proof of funds
\u2022 Three months of bank statements (not six months, in our case)<\/p>

The bank statements needed to show at least USD $15,000 in available funds. The visa fee was approximately USD $340 per person.<\/p>

One thing we misunderstood at first was thinking we had to bring our passports to the embassy. Because of that, we stayed in Hanoi the entire time waiting for updates and did not travel to other cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang. Later, we realized that the embassy never requested our passports at all, since the entire process was handled online.<\/p>

The only issue we experienced during the process involved confirming that our address and district information in Thailand were correct. I had to contact my training school so the school administrator could verify the district information for the application.<\/p>

If I remember correctly, we submitted the visa application around March 24 or March 25, 2026. About seven days later, we received an email from the embassy requesting clarification regarding the Thailand ID information from the school administrator. We were able to provide the requested information within about a day.<\/p>

On April 2, 2026, we received approval emails for both of our DTV visas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

After returning to Thailand, immigration stamped the visa into the passport as a DTV visa. The visa allows multiple entries over a five-year period, with each entry permitting a stay of up to six months at a time in Thailand.<\/p>

My experience in Hanoi itself was also very interesting, especially since it was my first time visiting Vietnam. As I mentioned earlier, I was originally looking forward to visiting a few other cities as well, but due to the lack of clear information regarding the visa process, we decided to remain in Hanoi the entire time.<\/p>

Even so, we both enjoyed the city very much. Hanoi has many shopping areas, local markets, restaurants, and busy streets full of energy and activity. The city feels alive almost all hours of the day.<\/p>

That being said, the traffic can be extremely overwhelming. Even as someone who has a lot of experience riding in Indonesia, I found Hanoi to be much more chaotic and overbearing. Walking through the streets can be stressful at times because you constantly have to navigate around motorcycles, cars, buses, and other vehicles moving in every direction.<\/p>

One thing I would strongly recommend is not bringing too many clothes or unnecessary items when traveling to Vietnam. Many things are extremely affordable there, including clothing, food, and even healthcare services.<\/p>

I was especially surprised by how inexpensive medical and dental care were. For example, I only paid about six dollars for a dental cleaning at a large dental facility, which was far cheaper than what I would normally expect elsewhere.<\/p>
